EyeReenIC Pushes for Localization of TDI Image Sensors for Satellites… Aiming for Commercialization by 2031

The fabless image sensor startup ‘EyeReenIC’ announced on the 13th that it has officially begun its project to localize TDI (Time Delay Integration) image sensors for satellites. The company has completed the formation of a consortium and is preparing a proposal, with the goal of commercialization by 2031. This sensor will incorporate radiation-hardened technology to ensure stable operation in space radiation environments and can be widely used in national security fields such as reconnaissance satellites.

EyeReenIC is currently focusing on development with the aim of launching an industrial TDI image sensor by 2026. The sensor will feature Hybrid CMOS technology, low-power design, high-speed line rates, and multi-level pixel support, making it suitable for various high-speed and high-precision environments like industrial inspection and machine vision. In the future, the company plans to expand its technology to include Area Sensors, SWIR sensors, and medical image sensors. Based on this, EyeReenIC aims to capture 5% of the global market share by 2031.

Although EyeReenIC is still in its early stages as a startup, it aims to establish Gyeongsangnam-do as a hub for space semiconductors. Gyeongsangnam-do is already a core region for Korea’s aerospace industry, hosting key entities such as the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI), and Hanwha Aerospace, with well-established industrial infrastructure.

EyeReenIC plans to leverage these regional advantages to build a system for developing and mass-producing space semiconductor technologies, using Gyeongsangnam-do as its base. Through this strategy, the company aims to achieve two goals: boosting regional economic growth while strengthening global competitiveness in the space industry.

Kwang-Jun Yu, CEO of EyeReenIC, stated, “Through technological self-reliance, we will pave the way for the future of Korea’s space and defense industries.” He added, “EyeReenIC will grow into a globally recognized leader in image sensor technology based on performance.”

Formation of a joint research consortium with the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute (KERI)

EyeReenIC formed a joint development consortium for the development of space-use TDI image sensors on January 20, 2025.
EyeReenIC will be responsible for the analog circuit design and chip design of the image sensors, while digital circuit research will be conducted in collaboration with KERI.
Research on components suitable for space use will be carried out by KERI.
In future national projects, EyeReenIC and KERI will conduct technological research as agreed when forming the consortium.
The researchers conducting joint research with KERI will be Ph.D. holders with expertise in components and digital design, and they are outstanding researchers with significant research achievements at KERI.
EyeReenIC aims to complete the development of image sensors for low Earth orbit satellites within 5 years and to enter the market for image sensors with over 95% radiation resistance characteristics, suitable for mounting on medium-sized satellites, within 10 years.

Founded in October of last year, EyeReenIC is developing high-resolution image sensor semiconductors, such as Time Delay Integration (TDI) sensors and Short-Wave Infrared (SWIR) sensors. TDI sensors are specialized in accurately capturing fast-moving objects. In industrial inspection, they are expected to detect fine defects, while in aerospace, they are anticipated to deliver high-resolution images even in low-light environments.

SWIR sensors, which operate in the 0.8~2.0μm wavelength range, detect objects that are difficult for the human eye to see. They also perform well in detecting contaminants in semiconductors, agricultural products, and more.

The company is currently designing circuits to be applied to TDI and SWIR sensors with the goal of semiconductor production in the second half of next year. It has laid out a roadmap, with plans to release TDI image sensors in 2026, commercialize SWIR image sensors in 2027, and export TDI sensors.

창원산업진흥원 ‘방산 기술창업 아카데미’ IR평가 시상식 개최

최우수상-아이리닉·엘피텍·리볼틱스(주)·영엔지니어링·김창순 예비창업자 선정

창원산업진흥원(원장 직무대리 임재봉)은 지난 7월 4일 오후 2시 창원시창업지원센터 세미나홀에서 예비 및 초기 기술창업자와 창업지원 유관기관 관계자 등이 참석한 가운데 ‘제3기 창창 (방산)기술창업 아카데미 IR평가 시상식‘을 개최했다.

‘제3기 창창(방산) 기술창업 아카데미’는 미래먹거리를 창출할 수 있는 방산 등 미래산업 기반 혁신 아이디어를 보유한 지역 내 예비창업자(팀) 및 업력 1년 이내 기술창업자에게 우수한 아이디어가 사업화될 수 있도록 실무 역량 강화에 기반을 둔 집중 교육 프로그램으로 창원특례시와 국방기술진흥연구소가 주최하고 창원산업진흥원과 창원시 창업지원센터가 주관하는 사업이다.

지난 6월 27일에 4월부터 6월까지 3달간 매주 창업 기본교육에 참가한 25개 팀이 IR 발표를 하였으며 우수한 창업팀 15개사가 선정되어 시상 및 사업화 자금을 전달했다.

최우수상(사업화자금 1000만원)은 아이리닉(유광준), 엘피텍(박형순), 리볼틱스(주)(서진우), 영엔지니어링(김영복), 예비창업자(김창순)에게, 우수상(사업화자금 750만원)은 (주)잼텍(임성호), 유저글리(최은지), 컴뱃다이버스쿨(잭킴), 더필즈(배종남), (주)에스엠엔솔(박종만)이, 장려상(사업화 자금 500만원)은 TMRAS(장나겸), 제노기술(황희두), (주)파파시스템(남왕현), 레이드아웃(이양수), 예비창업자(오영일)가 각각 수상했다.

아이리닉 유광준 대표는 ‘서울이 아닌 방산산업의 메카인 창원에서 단지 기술 하나만 가지고 창업하였는데, 본 프로그램을 통해 아이디어가 구체화되었고, 현재 많은 투자자들이 관심을 가지고 있어 창업기업이 지닌 미래의 불확실성을 좀 더 확실하게 성장할 수 있는 길을 만들어 준 것에 감사한다’라고 말했다.
